06/12/2009 7:20 AM - Washington DC…The reports from various news agencies that a team playing in an International Tournament in Italy is a PBL All Start team and was selected and sanctioned by the Premier Basketball League are completely false. The Premier Basketball League released the following official statement:
 
“The PBL was contacted by Roosevelt Bouie in the early part of May informing the league that the PBL had been extended an invitation to play in an International Tournament in Italy later in the month. While the PBL was appreciative of the invitation the invitation was declined in writing, to Mr. Bouie, as the league did not feel, given the limited amount of time, we could have a team selected and properly prepared to compete. We learned late yesterday that Mr. Bouie and another gentleman are apparently in Italy coaching a team under the name of the PBL. This use of the PBL name is completely without authorization and the team playing in the tournament has no affiliation, sanction or association with the Premier Basketball League. We have turned this matter over to our legal counsel to take all appropriate action for the unauthorized use of the PBL name other PBL intellectual property.”
 
PBL CEO and Commissioner Thomas Doyle stated, “The PBL will not tolerate the unauthorized use of the PBL name. The PBL did not want to send a team to this tournament given the limited time to prepare, this unauthorized use of the PBL name has caused immense damage to the reputation of our league and most assuredly action will be taken against the individuals who are responsible for this blatant unlawful act. We look forward to bringing a real PBL All Star team to compete against great teams in the Italian leagues in the near future.”
